“No great project can be done without great collaboration” –  Creative Dance and Technology Lab participant 2017

Between the 17 and 21 July 2017, East London Dance and London College of Fashion joined forces to deliver the first Creative Dance and Technology Lab at Arcade East. Twelve applicants, selected through an open application from across Costume and Fashion, Dance and Creative Technology were thrown into hands-on practical sessions learning a range of new skills and developing collaborative processes.

The week was made up of a series of workshops across all three disciplines that saw the participants try their hand at coding motion sensors, get to grips with industrial sewing machines and learn the foundations of choreography.

Discovery and experimentation were at the core of the Lab. In the latter part of the week, there was time for the team to explore their initial inspirations in smaller groups, seek advice from the expert workshop leaders and test out the technology in order to make their ideas a reality to  share with the group.

Following this initial week, participants will have the opportunity to develop their ideas and explore the collaborations further with another week of R&D in September at London College of Fashion.
