Since summer 2023 East London Dance has been working with City of London to increased community engagement and wellbeing of residents and workers in the borough.
The aim of the project is to:
- bring the City of London’s communities together to connect, through fun, uplifting dance experiences
- give residents and workers an increased awareness of local dance and wider cultural offer available to them, increasing cultural accessibility and participation
- engage the local community to co-design two new dance projects, to enhance community cohesion and increase confidence and health & wellbeing
In 2023 we produced two free outdoor public events to get the local community dancing at New Street Square and Aldgate Square as part of St Barthlolomew Fair.
Following these events we consulted with local borough residents and workers and, based on the feedback, co-designed a pilot series of free dance and movement classes at Golden Lane and Portsoken Community Centres in the summer of 2024.
Additionally we presented two free community events at the same two community centres dance workshops, wellbeing activities, free food and games.
For the next stage of this project we will be providing free movement based team building sessions to local businesses.
