Wellbeing in the City

East London Dance has been working with the City of London over the past few years to engage its local community in dance activity to boost community cohesion and wellbeing.

In previous years we have presented a huge range of free dance performances and workshops at Bartholomew Fair in the parks and public squares of the City of London and provided free workshops, dance classes and activity days for communities in local community centres.

Most recently we have been working with businesses in the area to engage city workers to understand the importance of their mental health and wellbeing.

Using fun games, activities and dance in their usual office spaces, East London Dance Community and Wellbeing Manager Nzinga Mascall and Salsa dance artist Erika G ran sessions helping city workers build connections to each other, spark creativity and boost confidence in a fun, welcoming and informal atmosphere. The sessions allowed a space for decompression at the end of a hard-working day to help relax and ground participants and focus them on self-care.

“There is so much power in creating a welcoming environment and asking deceptively simple questions to generate discussion” Participant

“I had so much fun with the salsa class i might have discovered one of my new hobbies” Participant

East London Dance puts mental and physical wellbeing at the heart of everything we do and we believe that dance in its many forms is an incredible tool to help create lasting human connections, build confidence and contribute to a healthy life balance.
