Back for it’s third iteration, in July East London Dance and London College of Fashion invited 12 participants from across Costume & Fashion, Dance and Creative Technology to take part in our innovative Creative Lab programme at Arcade East in Hackney.

Participants this year were thrown into hands on practical workshops from day one, exploring 3D printing, virtual reality and projection mapping, alongside choreographic practice, trying their hand at pattern cutting and learning how to use an industrial sewing machine.

Each year, the lab grows as more technologies become available, with this year’s participants getting to experiment with full motion capture suits!

Throughout the week participants were encouraged to collaborate across all three disciplines, playing and experimenting with new skills and technologies. Towards the end of the week, they worked on progressing their ideas and prototypes with hands on practical advice and guidance from our expert workshop leaders including choreographer and director of Casson and Friends, Tim Casson and Founder of Vocab Dance, Alesandra Seutin.

“The programme exceeded all my expectations, it was a wonderfully creative and explorative week that opened so many new possibilities.” Creative Lab participant 2019

Creative Lab 2019 concluded with an informal sharing where members of the public were given first-hand experience of the initial exciting ideas formed by the participants throughout the week.
