Dancing City 2026

As, Was, Is at Dancing City

Greenwich and Docklands International Festival’s Dancing City once again brought world-class dance to the heart of east London this September, and we were delighted to support two outstanding performances as part of this year’s festival at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

Audiences were treated to As, Was, Is by Chandenie Gobardhan and Shawn Plague, an electrifying and deeply moving work that showcased Locking in a way rarely seen. Through powerful movement and intimate storytelling, the piece explored themes of connection, empathy and shared humanity, captivating visitors throughout the day.

Festival-goers also enjoyed The Aunties: House of Masks by Oluwatosin Omotoso and The Aunties, a vibrant celebration of resilience, identity and the complexities of family life. Blending street dance, hip hop and African dance styles, the performance delivered laughter, breathtaking movement and thought-provoking moments that resonated with audiences of all ages.

With free performances taking place across Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Dancing City transformed public spaces into stages, bringing communities together through the power of dance. We were proud to support these talented artists and to be part of a day that celebrated creativity, culture and the joy of live performance.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, and congratulations to all the artists, organisers and audiences who made the event such a success.

Dancing City took place on Saturday 5 September and was supported by Arts Council England, Sadlers Wells East, East Bank, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Without Walls, East London Dance
