Our House of Suraj – An Our House Takeover

From December 8-14 2025, Kumari Suraj and House of Suraj took over the Talent House for a vibrant celebration of queer resilience, resistance, wellness & fantasy.

Supported by the ELD team, the takeover created a welcoming space for LGBTQIA+ communities, focusing on mental health for neurodivergent and Global Majority participants.

It was a full and nourishing community celebration including Bollywaack, Waacking Choreo and All American Runway dance classes, activism and creative practice workshops, inclusivity panels, communal meals & joyous performance all bring the community together in one unforgettable week.

“It’s important to have spaces to feel seen, understood, accepted, to rest and to learn from each other’s experience, to support each other while being supported” Our House Participant

“It felt like East London Dance was very invested in what’s going on and that this queer event was not tokenistic to them but something that everyone could benefit from and enjoy and learn from. It really showed ELD’s commitment to community.” Our House Participant

“As someone new to these kinds of events it was amazing to have the space” Our House Participant

“The event was so holistic it gave the opportunity to connect with lots of different people and explore queerness in ways that are overlooked in the mainstream. Having a space to learn from queer artists can allow us to see other possibilities and ways of being and doing things.” Our House Participant

Our House of Suraj was a House of Suraj OUR HOUSE Takeover presented by Kumari Suraj and East London Dance, supported by Paul Hamlyn Foundation and Arts Council England.

OUR HOUSE is an East London Dance programme which hands over creative control of our programming to independent artists and collectives for a week at a time, to make the decisions within our artistic offer and curate activity at our home, the Talent House.
