East London Dance is the Big Dance hub for east London and is thrilled to be flying the flag for all things dance in this area. Everyone is welcome to be a part of Big Dance, with performances, workshops, exhibitions, debates, photography and films taking place across all of the UK.
Big Dance week took place 5 – 13 July 2014 with loads of activities building up to and out of this incredible week.
Highlights included:
Big Dance Pledge
The Big Dance Pledge is your opportunity to learn, create and perform dance along with the rest of the world. This year’s choreography was created by Scottish Ballet in celebration of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and was available to learn through online films.
On Friday 16 May hundreds of thousands of people from across the world united and performed the pledge.
The resources are still available until 5 January 2015 for you to use and learn.
Beats For Peace – Big Commonwealth Dance
On Saturday 12 July thousands of dancers in Trafalgar Square linked up with cities across the world to perform a unique new work choreographed by internationally renowned choreographer Rafael Bonachela.
Big Dance Bus
All aboard! The Big Dance Bus hit the streets for another all-singing, all-dancing trip around the UK! The Big Dance Bus pops up in the most unexpected places and provides a platform for the widest imaginable range of dance performances.
Big Dance Youth Platforms
Local youth dance groups and companies performed at high-quality events across the capital. This initiative was supported by Exercise, Movement and Dance Partnership and aimed to offer children and young people performance platforms and free dance workshops. Performances will continue well into 2015 so look out for a platform near you.
Big Dance East
East London put on their dancing shoes once again with a whole range of performances, happenings and workshops. East London Dance’s main commission was The River which performed at Dancing City as part of Greenwich + Docklands Festival and the Mayor’s Newham Show
