Case Study

Holocaust Memorial Day Dance Commission
Client: Holocaust Memorial Day Trust

Holocaust Memorial Day Trust wanted to incorporate dance and the arts to their annual Holocaust commemorations to accompany an exhibition they were touring to schools.

East London Dance were commissioned to deliver a new 10-minute performance. Identifying that we would need to create an abstract, educational and inspiring piece of choreography that could sit in this sensitive cultural event we selected choreographer Tony Adigun (Avant Garde Dance) to create a short piece with Avant Garde Youth Company (14-19 years old) in response to the theme ‘Speak up, Speak Out’. The piece was performed as part of an exhibition for secondary school pupils.

“Working with East London Dance was great. The dance performance was really well received by the young people in the audience and many of them wrote about the dance when reflecting on the UK HMD event. Working with East London Dance really shaped our arts programme and has left a strong legacy for the programme today”
James Hurst, Director of Operations at HMDT
