Using innovative cutting-edge dance, you will experience a new way to watch music and a new way to listen to dance.
Romeo & Juliet
Avant Garde Dance’s adaptation of Romeo and Juliet is an immersive hip hop theatre piece that moves across a number of indoor and outdoor locations. The show has dance and musicality at its heart, but is rooted as a theatre production based on Shakespeare’s tragic love story. Tony Adigun’s ground breaking choreography and direction combines with Shakespeare’s text, adapted by spoken word artist and theatre maker Maxwell Golden, to create a stunning production that immerses the audience in a modern take of the play that literally uses the cityscape as the stage.
This annual festival invites the UK’s finest hip hop choreographers and performers to collaborate and create innovative dance hybrids or to provide dance interpretations of music produced by Mikey J Asante. Born through Adigun’s drive to bring together companies from different dance worlds and to create greater union in the UK’s hip-hop dance scene. This kind of collaboration leads choreographers down creative paths they would never normally have considered and results in some inspiring work.
